Fisheads is a full service lodge and the only Orvis-endorsed outfitter on the San Juan river. We’re pretty laid back, but we take some things seriously, including fishing and food. Fisheads guides understand every tiny detail of the fish, flies and water. We’re on the San Juan river every day, so we know the water like the back of our hand. Our chef sources local ingredients for our four-course dinners and serves breakfasts that you’ll want the recipe for. Our Legacy
A lodge born out of guiding
What began as a small guide service on the San Juan more than 25 years ago has grown into a lodge and community that anglers return to year after year. Fisheads earned its loyal following in the early days for its personable and exceptional guides. With more anglers returning season after season, the need for lodging became clear. In the early 2010s, Fisheads Lodge was born, offering the same care and expertise that defined our guide service, now woven into every aspect of our guests' stays.
The San Juan River
Year-round trophy trout, remarkable abundance
The San Juan river is one of the most sought-after tailwaters in the U.S. Several times a year, Fisheads guides will help a customer land a trout over 30 inches.
The river has 12,000–15,000 fish per mile, and the trophy-sized trout that swim its waters eat such small flies that they have to open their mouths to eat 3,000–5,000 times per day. That’s a lot of fish with open mouths and a lot of opportunities for you to make a catch worth bragging about.

Group Trips

We love hosting groups. All you do is book the trip, and we take care of everything. Our lodging accommodates groups from 4–24 people. The Fisheads all-inclusive packages include three meals a day; everyone in your group can eat breakfast on their own schedule, and we'll seat your group together for dinner. Families, corporate groups and fishing clubs seek out Fisheads because it's low-stress and a great time for fishers of all ability levels. It’s an adventure everyone loves.

There’s no better classroom for fly fishing than the San Juan River. Its wide, gentle currents and open water make casting simple, and with thousands of trout per mile, there’s always a chance to hook up. Our guides love teaching newcomers and take pride in turning those first casts into lasting skills and memories of catching trout on the fly.

We live and breathe fishing. Every night, our guides coordinate with each other in preparation for the next day: Weather conditions, what flies they’re going to use, what depth they’ll be at. We prepare the way we do so you catch the most—and the biggest—fish on the river.
